About Me

Sifan Song

Assistant Professor
Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University

I am an Assistant Professor at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and currently a Visiting Scholar with the MIRACLE research group at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). My research spans medical imaging AI, foundation-model adaptation, EEG analysis, neural intelligence, embodied AI, and AI agents for biomedical applications.

Before joining XJTLU, I was a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital from 2024 to 2026, working with the CAMCA research group led by Prof. Quanzheng Li.

I received my PhD in Computer Science from the University of Liverpool (2020-2023), under the supervision of Prof. Jionglong Su and Prof. Jia Meng.

During my PhD studies, I was a Visiting Student with the MIRACLE research group at USTC, supervised by Prof. Shaohua (Kevin) Zhou, and at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, supervised by Dr. Jiaming Zhang.

I hold master's degrees in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Southampton and Bioinformatics from the University of Edinburgh.

Research Interests

  • Medical imaging AI: segmentation, restoration, and generation across CT, MRI, PET, ophthalmic imaging, and multimodal biomedical data.
  • Foundation-model adaptation: parameter-efficient fine-tuning, promptable models, and transfer across medical tasks and imaging domains.
  • Anatomy-aware representation learning: organ-wise tokenization and structured representations for medical image understanding.
  • EEG analysis and neural intelligence: representation learning for neural signals, with interests in brain activity, cognition, and brain-inspired computation.
  • Embodied AI: connecting multimodal perception, reasoning, and action in agents that interact with physical environments.
  • Large language models and AI agents: integrating multimodal information, interpretable reasoning, and tools for biomedical research and applications.
